About Dr. Al-Mohammedi
Dr. Faisal Al-Mohammedi is a dermatologist and dermatopathologist certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in two specialties: Anatomical Pathology, effective 2008, and Dermatology, effective 2012. He completed his medical degree at King Abdulaziz University College of Medicine in 2001. At DermCare he sees patients by referral for medical dermatology and reads the practice's skin biopsies.

Dermatopathology at DermCare
Dermatopathology is the examination of skin tissue under the microscope. When a lesion or rash cannot be diagnosed with confidence by looking at it, a small biopsy is taken and the tissue is prepared, stained and read by a pathologist. The written pathology report is what confirms or excludes a skin cancer and settles many inflammatory diagnoses.
When a biopsy is sent to an outside laboratory, it is read by a pathologist who has not seen the patient. At DermCare, Dr. Al-Mohammedi is certified in both dermatology and anatomical pathology, so the physician who reads the slide understands the clinical question and, where he has seen the patient, the clinical picture as well. This matters to patients and referrers in three ways.
- Clinical and microscopic findings are matched directly. The pathologist reading the slide knows what the lesion looked like, where it was and what the treating dermatologist was concerned about, so the report is written to answer that question.
- Questions are resolved inside the practice. If a result is unexpected, the treating dermatologist and the reading pathologist can review the slide together and decide whether a further biopsy or additional stains are needed, without a round of correspondence with an external laboratory.
- Results reach the treatment plan sooner. Because the read and the follow up decision sit in the same practice, the result can be acted on as soon as it is available.

Practice
Dr. Al-Mohammedi sees patients by referral for the full range of medical dermatology, including skin cancer assessment, inflammatory skin disease and hair, scalp and nail disorders. He works alongside Dr. Aiza Ejaz, the practice's Medical Director, and with the nursing and phototherapy team who deliver narrowband UVB on site under physician order.

Referrals are accepted by fax to 905 625 5650 and are triaged by the practice as a whole, so please do not delay a referral to request a specific physician.
